New Delhi, Sept 27, 2025 (Report by S.S. Dogra) – The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia (FCC South Asia) witnessed a proud milestone as its President, Dr. Waiel Awwad, officially assumed the presidency of the International Association of Press Clubs (IAPC), taking over from the London Press Club, at the IAPC Assembly hosted in New Delhi.
Founded in 1958, FCC South Asia is one of the oldest and most respected press clubs in the region, renowned for promoting dialogue, defending media freedom, and serving as a platform for international correspondents in South Asia. The IAPC, with more than 50 member press clubs worldwide, serves as a vital global voice for journalists and free expression.
“It is an honor at a crucial time for global journalism,” said Dr. Awwad, emphasizing the need for solidarity among press clubs to counter disinformation and defend press freedom. Jaroslaw Wtodarczyk, Secretary-General of IAPC, welcomed the transition as a “new chapter” that enhances South Asia’s role in the global media landscape.
Prakash Nanda, Secretary of FCC South Asia, shared that the assembly concluded with a vibrant cultural evening, where office bearers and active members of FCC South Asia graced the occasion. The performances reflected India’s rich art and heritage, making the evening a memorable celebration of this historic achievement.
