Round Table on Best Practices in NGO Governance on 10 th Feb

The National Law University, Delhi, established vide Act, I of 2008, of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi is a premier Law University involved in teaching and research in law and allied subjects.

The National Law University, Delhi in collaboration with UK Charity Commission is hosting a round table on “Best Practices in NGO Governance: Issues and Challenges” at National Law University, Delhi on 10th February, 2010. As the global interest in the regulation of NGOs has increased in the recent years, particularly, as they have become increasingly important to the delivery of development and social welfare. India has taken initiatives to reform the NGO regulations and in the year 2004, the Ministry of Planning issued a paper taking this matter further. Such matters are of specific relevance having regard to India’s position in today’s Global Economic scenario, where the role of the voluntary organisation sector is crucial.

The proposed round table will consider the current issues and challenges and look at the practical ways in which such reforms can be made. The round table will draw experts from the Government, the NGO Sector, the Academies, Law Enforcement Bodies, both National and International Donors and other Stakeholders. The objective is to achieve key findings from the round table with a view to taking further effective steps towards adopting improvement best practices. The recommendations and outcome from the round table will help in drafting the documents for policy formation for future NGO regulation which can contribute to the development of healthy, accountable and independent NGO sector.

This is an initiative for the Round Table which impacts the lives of millions of people through the NGOs is to look at the various issues concerning the role of NGO sector.
