A joint delegation of Confederation of Senior Citizens Associations of Delhi led by its Chairperson JR Gupta and All India Senior Citizens Confederation led by its President and Secretary General Shri RN Mittal and Shri DN Chapke met Honorable Kumari Selja, Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Govt. of India at her office today and presented a Charter of Demands for Senior Citizens across Country. The delegation members requested the Honorable Minister to take up the issues of Senior Citizens with the Govt.of India, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Railways being her nodal Ministry.
To implement National Policy on older persons, enhancement of old age pension to BPL senior citizens, increase in the tax exemption limit to Rs.5 lakhs as against presently 2.5 lakhs, 1 old age home in each district across country, 50% concession to male senior citizens in train fares like female senior citizens as against 40% presently, 1 free attendant to accompany to senior citizens 85 plus, provision of escalators/lifts on important stations and ramps throughout country, provision of separate compartment for senior citizens in local trains, separate que for senior citizens at ticket booking counters and lastly to create awareness about Maintenance Act 2007.
The Minister assured the delegation members to look into their demands favorably as far as her ministry is concerned and also agreed to take up the other issues with ministries of railways and finance.
