On the occasion of World Water Day (22 March 2026), a national seminar on the theme “Water, Gender Equality and Climate” was successfully organized at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club South Asia, New Delhi. The event witnessed notable participation from policymakers, scientists, diplomats, and experts.

Chief Guest Dr. Raj Bhushan Choudhary, Minister of State, Ministry of Jal Shakti, described water security as the foundation of Viksit Bharat 2047. He highlighted that under the Jal Jeevan Mission, more than 150 million rural households have been provided with tap water connections, safeguarding both the time and dignity of women. Key speakers including Dr. V.K. Saraswat (NITI Aayog) and FCC President Dr.W.S.H. Awwad emphasized community participation, revival of traditional water structures, and the leadership role of women in water management. A commemorative publication was also released on the occasion.

The seminar addressed serious concerns such as declining per capita water availability (1,486 cubic meters), water stress affecting 600 million people, and the widening demand–supply gap projected by 2030.

Adopting the “New Delhi Declaration – Water and Gender Equality,” participants called for increasing irrigation efficiency to 60% by 2031, promoting community-based water management, and aligning water security with climate commitments.

The program emerged as an effective platform for dialogue, collaboration, and concrete action, conveying the message:

“Where water flows, equality grows.”
