NAGAR KIRTAN dedicated to Parkash Purab held in Dwarka Sub City

To commemorate the 555th Birth Anniversary (Parkash Purab) of Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, a religious procession (Nagar Kirtan) was organized by Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Sector 11, Dwarka, New Delhi, on Sunday, the 24th November, 2024, which was routed through different sectors of Dwarka Sub City.

The NAGAR KIRTAN was started from Queen’s Valley School, Sector-8, Dwarka, New Delhi at around 10:30 AM and moved towards Ramphal Chock Market Sector-7 to DAV School Sector-6 to the main markets of Sectors 6, 10, & Sectors 5 & 11, Dwarka. The Nagar Kirtan reached Gurdwara Sahib, Sector 11, Dwarka at around 6 PM, said Kuldip Singh, President.

The Punj Pyaras (the five beloved ones of Guru jee) led the procession, followed by Nagara (a forme of beating drum), Ambulance, various band groups, groups of Gatka parties (Sikh martial art groups), Groups of Ladies and Children, reciting Gurbani Kirtan.

The entire procession was carried out under the aegis of Sahib Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji gracing in a palanquin (Palki Sahib). During the entire route, large number of residents of Dwarka and as nearby areas participated in the Nagar Kirtan. At several places, residents of Dwarka distributed sweets, fruits, and langar to the devotees in their specially installed food stalls enroute the procession.

The devotees cleaned the pathway of Palki Sahib of Sahib Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and showered flowers on the way.

In the procession, ‘Gatka skills’ were demonstrated by young children with great fervour. A free Health Checkup Camp was also organised at starting point of Nagar Kirtan at Sector-8, Dwarka for the devotees and residents of Dwarka, said A S Chhatwal, Treasurer. Throughout in the Nagar Kirtan, men, women and children from different religions were found reciting the Holy hymns from Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji.

In his message, A S Chhatwal said “Guru Sahib emphasised the need of equality, compassion and unity, guided the people to follow the path of righteousness and love for all. Guru Sahib’s profound wisdom and spiritual messages will continue to enlighten the humane being for harmonious coexistence”.
