Amulya Patnaik is new CP of Delhi

New Delhi: 31st January,2017. Mr. Amulya Patnaik, IPS (1985 Batch) took charge as 21st Commissioner of Police, Delhi. At 11.15 AM, outgoing Commissioner Sh. Alok Kumar Verma was given a spectacular ceremonial Guard of Honour at New Police Lines, Kingsway Camp Grounds.

In his speech, Sh. Verma shared that the city has seen better law & order scenario and a drop in overall heinous crime during 2016. He commended all the officers, staff and field formations of Delhi Police for achieving the same. He further announced that Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Delhi has cleared the proposal for at least three promotions for the personnel who join the force in the ranks of Constables and Head Constable, and at least two promotions for those joining at Sub Inspector level. He also congratulated Sh. Patnaik and wished the force to keep up with their work with same vigour and efficiency.

At around 5.00 PM, Sh. Amulya Patnaik took charge from Sh. Verma in a formal Handing/Taking Over ceremony, after which Sh. Verma was given a ceremonial farewell with best wishes for his new assignment as Chief of prestigious federal investigating agency CBI, which is his 24th posting in his 36 year long career. He has the distinction of being the Police Chief of 4 States/UTs i.e. Delhi, Mizoram, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Puducherry, besides holding the post of Director General, Tihar Prisons.

Sh. Patnaik was given a ceremonial welcome in PHQ, after which he interacted with the media and presented his views with priorities to make the city safe and secure for its citizens. Sh. Amulya Patnaik is a decorated officer with expertise in the multiple fields i.e. investigation, crowd control, VVIP security and cyber awareness.
