Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, New Delhi (Ministry of Culture, Government of India) in collaboration with The Neemrana Music Foundation in partnership with the Embassy of Spain in India and Instituto Cervantes New Delhi are bringing to India the best of Spanish Zarzuela on Thursday 25th February, 2020 to Delhi. The spectacular sets have been designed and manufactured by CCRT’s young scholarship holders.
Zarzuela is a popular genre of musical comedy tracing its origin to Spain that uses a mix of songs and spoken scenes, very much like an operetta; a unique showcase of the rhythms and traditions of the diverse cultures of Spain. A Hilarious Spanish Operetta ‘El Trust de los Tenorios’ (1910) by José Serrano, is one of the most recognizable zarzuela compositions. It takes the audience from Madrid (Spain) to India, via Paris and Venice.
“The melodious tunes and scenes which will be enacted in English with spectacular costumes and lavish sets will remind the Indian audience of a Bollywood show” says Priya Wacziarg, Managing Trustee of The Neemrana Music Foundation.
A Hilarious Spanish Operetta sung in Spanish with scenes in English is an AC/E’s Programme for the Internationalisation of Spanish Culture (PICE) . This zarzuela piece comes to life through Spanish pianist Rubén Sánchez; Voice Coach Jasmin Martorelland; Stage Director Yashraj Jadhav, who will direct young Indian soloists of The Neemrana Music Foundation and 30 choir singers.
