SVIS Dwarka Celebrated Sports Day

Sri Venkateshwar International School, Sector 18 Dwarka celebrated the Closing Ceremony of the Annual Athletic Meet on Friday, February 13, 2015. The day marked the culmination of the sporting events for the ongoing academic session.

Mr Raj Singh, Dronacharya Awardee and a wrestler who has represented India 150 times, and Manavjit Singh Sandhu an Indian sport shooter who specializes in trap shooting, a Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee in 2006 and Arjuna Awardee in 1998, three time Olympian, having represented India at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2012 London Olympic Games and former World No.1 ranked Trap Shooter were the Chief Guests for the occasion. The School Chairman Mr Sailander Solanki and Gp. Capt Ishwar Singh, Advisor Venkateshwar Group of Schools were the Guests of Honour.

The Chief Guest declared the Meet open and took the salute of the marching contingent led by Vardhan of class IV and Ms Gayatri smartly astride a horse, the march past was led by Chitwan and Kayna Dhingra of Class IV. The Chief Guests then released the balloons signifying the desire and dreams of the children to achieve and soar high.

The school torch was carried by the sports teachers and the Wing In charges Ms Shama Kapoor and Ms Renuka who paved the manifestation of the correct values in the students for sportsmanship, will power, unity, understanding and camaraderie.

The Primary Prefect Ms Ananya Chopra of Class V administered the oath to all the students, pledging to respect and abide by the rules that would govern the Meet in the true spirit of sportsmanship for the glory of sports, honour of the Alma Mater and the pride of the nation.

The school Principal Ms Nita Arora accorded a floral welcome to all the guests and exhorted the students to achieve their potential in all spheres of life. She also enthused the parents to find time and make efforts for their wards joining the before and after school sports programme.

The school grounds oscillated between drills and races interspersed with a finesse to add gaiety, rhythm and challenge to the day. At one end the ground became the arctic with the Penguin drill, the Kinesthetic skills were displayed with aerobics, the mind and soul congruity with yoga, the obeisance to Lord Ganesha with the laziums and of course the skill of balancing with the human pyramids.

The races saw the young Venkateshwarites challenging their opponents and themselves in races like the tunnel race, bag packing race, flat race and the relay races. The tug of war between the faculty and the parents was the surprise of the day which ensured a spirited participation of the mentors as well. The tug of war was won by the Physical Education Department team of Sri VIS with a final score of 2-1.The proud winners of the various races were:
