The week will open with a Road Safety walk from India Gate in the capital on Monday January 9. The union minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari along with Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P.Nadda, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Vijay Goel, and Delhi Transport Minister Shri Satendra Jain will participate in the walk.
The Road Safety Week is observed every year across the country in the month of January to spread awareness and involve people-mostly youth and children about road safety . The theme of this years road safety week is ‘Accident is painful, safety is gainful’. India accounts for 11 per cent of global road accident deaths with about 1.46 lakh fatalities, highest in the world.
“International Road Federation along with active support of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and various other agencies including National Highway Authority of India, Delhi Government and Delhi police is organizing a day long seminar on ‘Pursuing 4Es for Road Safety – in the Mission Mode’ on January 13 . The Four E’s in road safety include Education, Enforcement, Engineering (roads as well as Vehicles) and Emergency care” said Mr Kapila.
