Indian Para Darts Team Creates History in Malaysia, Mahesh Wins Gold

In a historic achievement for Indian para sports, the Indian Para Darts team delivered an outstanding performance at the Selangor Open Darts Championship 2026, winning a total of nine medals and bringing pride to the nation on the international stage. Leading this success was Mahesh Pratap, who created history by winning the gold medal in the wheelchair category.

According to S.K. Gupta, Treasurer of the Indian Disability Darts Association (IDDA), the team successfully fulfilled its “Mission Go for Gold,” showcasing excellence across multiple categories and elevating India’s global standing.

As per the official results declared on the second day of the championship, the Wheelchair Para Darts Top 8 featured Mahesh Pratap as Champion, with Gan Eew Hock as Finalist. Rohit Gupta and Ong Chin Kok secured joint third positions with Bronze medal, while Rahul Gupta, Lau Su Booi, Chin Gek Sin, and Wong Li Wei finished at joint fifth positions.

In the Standing Para Darts Top 8 category, Kalimuthu A/L Kathiry won the gold medal, while India’s Mahendra Pratap Singh secured silver. Bronze medals were jointly won by Mohd. Idzwan Bin Abdul Ghaffar and Dr. Manish Kumar. The joint fifth positions were claimed by Waseem Akram, Dr. Deepak Kumar Tripathi, Rajan Harishchandra and Jayawirawan.

In the Youth U23 Open Singles category, Nur Muhammad Bin Mohd Sazrin emerged as Champion, while Jithendran finished as Finalist. Presilant Al Siva, Kumar, and Daneswarman Muthiah A/L Jagathesan secured joint third positions. Other notable performers included Shaktisilan A/L Siva Kumar, Marcus Phua Zhi Min, Adlina Saffiyah Binti Ahmad Syauqi, and Satguna A/L Devakumaran.

In the Mixed Doubles category, Go Oden The Destroyers clinched the first position, followed by Dojo Dejoy in second place. IRC A and NW Gaming secured joint third positions, while All In, Dojo Hyfay, RMP E, and Dojo X finished at joint fifth positions.

The international championship, being held in Malaysia, has attracted top players from across the world. Representing India in the wheelchair category were Rahul Gupta and Rohit Gupta (Kanpur), along with Mahesh Pratap (Varanasi). In the standing category, Alok Sharma (Raebareli), Ashok Kumar Yadav (Varanasi), Bhanwar Lal Meghwal (Rajasthan), Deepak Kumar Tripathi (Prayagraj), Mahendra Pratap Singh (Kanpur), Dr. Manish Kumar (Raebareli), Rajan Harishchandra Bhartav (Maharashtra), Santosh Kumar Gupta (Lucknow), Waseem Akram (Karnataka), and Shobhit Kumar (Bareilly) delivered commendable performances.

The team was led by Head Coach Shailesh Kumar (Kanpur), while Surender Singh Dogra served as official Mentor.

The championship was graced by several dignitaries, including Hafiz Ismail, Secretary of the Malaysia Darts Association; Alif Azwan, Assistant Manager (Marketing), Quayside Mall, Gamuda Land; Kasmawati Binti Hj Wan Mohd Nawi, Sports Officer, Youth and Sports, Kuala Langat District; and Rizali Bin Jaapar, President, Sports and Welfare, Kuala Langat District.

A total of 247 darts players from six countries—Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, India, and the Philippines—participated enthusiastically, including 206 men and 41 women.

K. Saegaran, Secretary, and Pathmanathan, President of the Selangor Darts Association, appreciated the successful of the championship. SEDA officials, including President Pathma, Deputy President Masrul Azam, Treasurer Tamil Selvi, and Committee Member Michael James, also played key roles in organizing the event.

Denial, President of the Indian Recreation Club Ipoh (Malaysia), lauded the outstanding performance of Indian players, calling it a remarkable achievement for both India and the organizers.

Darts is a popular and nationally recognized sport in Malaysia and continues to gain global prominence. In India too, the sport is gradually carving its identity. The remarkable performance of Indian para players highlights the country’s emerging talent and potential.

This historic success has not only brought pride to India but also signals that para darts is poised to emerge as a promising sport in the future.
