Basava is Green

Another jewel is studded to the glittering tiara of the Basava International School as the school has been awarded the Green Certificate . The school participated in the Green School Programme, a well known Environment Education programme run by the Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi .It is a platform to acknowledge schools which have adopted innovative and effective practices to manage natural resources within their premises . It enables schools to get their environmental practices benchmarked by their own students who have to follow a set of guidelines specified in the Green School Programme manual.

This self assessment exercise enabled the Basava students to learn ‘hands on’ difficult but key environmental lessons . By participating in this programme , the school has been able to build an environmentally aware ,active and skilled community of teachers , students and parents .

The programme was constituted by an audit. The 500 point audit consisted of chapters – Water , Air , Land, Energy and Waste .The various tasks under five chapters were based on factors that the school regards as significant . Tasks stipulated and designed by the programme enabled the auditors to record relevant information and calculate points scored by the school.

CSE verified the report and certified school’s environmental practices. The school’s scoring above 70% were awarded Green School Certificates and Basava’s score was 78%. Green school award is indeed another glory achieved by the school after the British Council International School Award.
