Ramalinga Adigalar also known as Thiru Arutprakasa Vallalar lived in the mid 19th century between 1823-1874. He propagated the principle of worshipping Shiva in the form of a Jyothi. His songs were aimed at proliferating the thought of ‘unity in diversity’ through a spiritual path. His songs evoke a unique feeling of supreme bliss with their beauty, richness and simplicity of Tamil language. He has mainly written songs on Lord Shiva and Lord Muruga.
